Satoshi has been in a wheelchair since the age of 12 when he lost his left leg due to osteosarcoma. He has competed in 6 consecutive Paralympic games since Atlanta in 1996, earning a gold medal in the men’s doubles with Shingo Kunieda in 2004 at Athens, and a bronze medal in 2008 at Beijing.
Received the World’s Wheelchair Tennis Player Award from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in 2003, establishing himself as a top tennis player representing Japan.
In 2016, earned a bronze medal at his 6th Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro, playing again with Shingo Kunieda in the men’s doubles.
