Began swimming at age 3, but became partially paralyzed on his left side after suffering a stroke at the age of 12. For about a year, Daisuke struggled with his physical therapy, but began swimming again after being inspired by athletes at the Sydney Paralympic games.
After entering Ritsumeikan University, secured a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Paralympic games.
Set a world record for the 50m backstroke in 2006 at the Paralympic World Cup.
Has competed at 3 Paralympic games including 2008 Beijing and 2012 London.
Currently affiliated with SIGMAXYZ where he continues to train as a professional swimmer.
