Turning the whole city into a station square! Making transportation via “LUUP” a normal part of life!

Overview

Luup is developing an electric kickboard sharing app with the mission of creating infrastructure that “turns the whole city into a ‘station square’,” and developing sharing services for electric, small, single-passenger micro-mobility vehicles. Under the government’s special measures, this is the first electric kickboard sharing service in Japan where helmet use is optional.

We aim to comprehensively handle not only small electric-assisted bicycles and electric kickboards, but also electric, small, single-passenger electric micro-mobility vehicles, establish first and last-mile transportation, and create a future where everyone can move freely.

Activities

① Information development in the context of lifestyle to normalize new means of transportation

Although there was exposure in the business context, such as notable startups and the latest technology, it was essential to disseminate information in the lifestyle context to make “LUUP,” a new means of transportation, a part of daily life.

Therefore, we took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to disseminate information focusing on lifestyle contexts such as transportation that avoids crowds and transportation that does not require specific clothing (such as suits or skirts), thereby establishing “LUUP” as a more familiar option.

 

② Implementation of experience sessions inviting lifestyle media

Participating in the government’s demonstration experiment to study safe driving rules for electric kickboards, under special measures , helmet use is optional We held an experience session for lifestyle media to coincide with the timing when public roads became accessible. In addition to demonstrations by staff, we created opportunities for the media to actually experience the service, thereby promoting understanding and usefulness of the service.

 

③ Rapid increase in users after launch, accelerating business development

This series of PR activities contributed to the successful creation of buzz at the time of launch, even as sudden news such as the declaration of a state of emergency overlapped. The number of users has also increased significantly, and since then, the business has been growing steadily, including expansion to various regions and collaboration with companies.
