Overview

An event where candle art was created with 2020 candles, each bearing a message from 2020 ordinary citizen runners who eagerly desired the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to be held, just before the decision on the host city for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.

Activities

The event was planned and implemented to coincide with the timing just before the decision on the host city for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. In order to positively influence the decision to hold the event in Japan, media coverage was solicited not only from domestic Japanese media but also from overseas media.
In order to ensure that the event was reported in countries around the world, the Tokyo Tower and Zojoji Temple, symbols of Tokyo, were lit up in five colors, and together with the message “WE BELIEVE TOKYO 2020” illuminated by candles, the event was designed to be expressed in a single photograph as a symbol of the feelings of Tokyo residents who eagerly desire the Olympic Games to be held. As a result, the event was broadcast not only in Japan but also around the world, including in Argentina, the voting location.
