Overview
In 2013, Myanmar hosted the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), an international sporting event held for the first time in 45 years, following democratization.
Upon receiving a request from the Myanmar government and President Thein Sein to design and produce uniforms for the 2,400-member Myanmar team participating in the Games, Junko Koshino, a leading Japanese fashion designer, formed an all-Made-in-Japan team incorporating the latest Japanese technology to design and produce the uniforms. A presentation ceremony and exhibition were held in Myanmar to unveil the uniforms.
Activities
SUNNY SIDE UP supported the “ALL JAPAN FOR MYANMAR” secretariat, which promotes this project, by managing the secretariat, sales to sponsoring companies, and promotion.
The ceremony was broadcast live throughout Myanmar by Myanmar’s television stations, appealing to Myanmar for support from Japan, and appealing to Myanmar and other ASEAN countries for the cultural aspect of Japan called fashion. It contributed to strengthening and developing the friendly relationship between Japan and Myanmar.
