Born in 1986 in Kyoto Prefecture.
Started swimming at the age of 3. At the age of 12, he collapsed due to a cerebral infarction by the poolside, leaving paralysis on the left side of his body. During the subsequent year of fighting illness and rehabilitation, he was tormented by despair, but after watching the Sydney Paralympic Games, he decided to start swimming again.
After entering Ritsumeikan University, he participated in the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games and won a silver medal in his first appearance.
In 2006, he set a world record in the 50m backstroke at the Paralympic World Cup.
He has participated in a total of three Paralympic Games, including the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and the 2012 London Paralympic Games.
Currently, he is competing as a professional swimmer affiliated with Sigmaxis Inc.
