SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP Inc. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Etsuko Tsugihara; hereinafter, “the Company”) will launch the “GO GREEN PROJECT,” a project to “gently encourage” sustainability promotion activities by companies and individuals, in line with Global Goals Week (period: Friday, September 17, 2021 to Sunday, September 26), which will be held during the United Nations General Assembly. As the first initiative of the project, the sustainability promotion activities practiced at the Company’s head office are announced as an “8 Action List.” Each action is compiled as a pictogram material and made available free of charge on our website so that other companies can also use it.

■Over 30 years of continuous challenge: Solving issues from two perspectives: “company” and “society”

Every year, approximately one week including September 25, when the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) were adopted at the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, is designated as “SDGs Week (Global Goals Week),” and events are held in countries around the world to promote awareness and behavioral change related to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)*. *UNITED NATIONS FOUNDATION GLOBAL GOALS WEEK 2021 https://globalgoalsweek.org/

Meanwhile, as a PR communication group, SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP has been involved in various participatory projects aimed at solving social issues, starting with the global advocacy campaign to eradicate poverty, the “White Band Project,” even before the SDGs were adopted. In recent years, it has launched the activities of the “Social Good Promotion Office” and “Good and Company Inc.” By focusing not only on solving the “company issues” of each client company through the power of public relations, but also on “social issues,” we continue to take on the challenge of transforming society as a whole.

■Organizing a project that connects the major themes advocated by the SDGs with small individual actions

In this way, SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP, which has been tackling issues from both the “company” and “society” perspectives, has been planning to create a cross-industry participatory project in line with this year’s SDGs Week. We believe that connecting the major theme of achieving the SDGs with small individual actions will lead to social change, and we will launch the “GO GREEN PROJECT” as a project to “gently encourage” sustainability promotion activities by companies and individuals.

As the first initiative, we will focus on “office spaces,” whose value is being redefined in the COVID-19 pandemic. We will extract the sustainability promotion activities that are being practiced at our head office, which underwent a major renovation in November last year and is functioning as a “place to create new communication and ideas,” and announce them as an “8 Action List.” In addition, we have created “14 pictograms” linked to each action to make it easier for other companies to introduce sustainability promotion activities aimed at achieving the SDGs, even in diverse office and telework environments.

It will be available free of charge on our website so that other companies can also use it. The goals of the SDGs cannot be achieved by the activities of a single company alone. To create a new movement, gain the empathy of many people, inspire those people to take action, and change the world. We believe that this is our social responsibility as a company that handles the invisible element of “communication.” Through the “GO GREEN PROJECT,” we will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs beyond the boundaries of companies and promote activities to build a society where “no one is left behind.”

■Social Good Promotion Office Overview

In July 2021, we established the “Social Good Promotion Office” with the aim of “co-creating and realizing solutions to social issues” by making full use of PR know-how and knowledge. Under the concept of “Something Good – One thing we can do,” we have released the book “SDGs for Companies to Survive 2030,” which summarizes corporate PR techniques for practicing SDGs and social actions, including this project. We are expanding the scope of activities related to SDGs and social good (= things that have a positive impact on the global environment and society), such as establishing a corporate venture capital (CVC) “Social Good Ventures” that invests in and supports the commercialization of companies that are working to solve social issues.
