The first ever Shibuya Bon Odori event was held in the Shibuya 109/Dogenzaka area in summer 2017, and was repeated again in 2018. As the Shibuya area continues its transformation, the event was held to bring the local community together with visitors, creating an opportunity for interaction and communication while taking part in a traditional Japanese activity.
34,000 people from Japan and abroad made a huge circle to dance the traditional summer Bon Odori.
What we did
SSU was responsible for PR, communication strategy development and media control at the event. The event was set up as the new summer tradition in the famous Shibuya area, helping to enhance Shibuya’s brand image as “the city communicating new values and culture to the world”.
